This is a little different than my usual posts, but I posted it on my Facebook account and got such positive feedback that I wanted to share it here, too. One of the comments was that the post was "inspirational", which was the entire point of the post. I'm hoping it can have a similar effect here.
I thought a lot about whether I should post this picture or not. I realized that it might offend/irritate/annoy some people. And then I realized that it saddened me that we live in a time and place where that is the case. Where women are made to feel bad about themselves or insecure, whether overweight, skinny, muscular, petite, short, tall... the very fact that I felt so unsure about posting a picture that I was proud of...that made me want to post it even more.
This picture was taken a few days ago, at 5 months postpartum. Nutrition and exercise have always been huge priorities in my life. And that was no exception during my pregnancy or following my son's birth. I do not believe, expect, or endorse the idea that all women, regardless of their current life stage, have to look a particular way, lose that baby weight in a matter of weeks or months, etc. That's not the point of this. The point is that I am proud that I was able to find time for myself, my health, my fitness, so that I'm able to feel like myself and like the best version of my role as a mother, wife, friend, daughter, etc. What's important to me is that women, men, children, teens feel their best and are as healthy as they can be.
Health is not a number on the scale, a certain size of jeans, or a particular percent of body fat. Health is disease prevention and recovery. Nutrition and exercise play a huge role in that journey. Life will always be busy. There will always be other priorities and obstacles. There will always be reasons why you couldn't eat well or get moving. The more often you give into those "reasons" and compromise your health, the less of a life and quality of life you'll have to keep giving into the excuses.
Making the choice each and every day to eat well and get moving...it's not easy. Some days it doesn't happen. But more often than not, I choose to say no to the reasons I "can't" and prove to myself that I can - for my son, my husband, my family, and most importantly, myself. If you want help saying no to the reasons you "can't" and "yes" to yourself, your life, your happiness, and your health, contact me or check out my Services to start the journey.
