As my lack of recent posting may suggest, things have been busy as ever around here. I finished my clinical rotations, started a new rotation in long-term care, and am trying to study for the dietetic exam as much as I can, despite poor concentration and seemingly non-stop falling energy levels. In any case, my mornings just seem more challenging these days, and I find myself craving something simple, delicious, and still nutritious. This smoothie fits the bill. It's got a touch of sweetness, a full serving of both fruits and veggies, no added sugar, a solid hit of protein, and even some omega-3s to boot. Fiber + Protein = solid start to the day.
**I didn't have a picture of my smoothie. It has spinach in it, so, it's green. Surprise! Please accept my apologies and this pretty picture from our trip to Greece instead! Ta-da!
Cinnamon Cocoa Banana Smoothie
makes 1 large (12+ oz) smoothie
1 small-medium banana (you're welcome to freeze it first; I just use it raw. If you do use a frozen one, skip the ice)
1 really big handful of raw spinach (about 2 cups)
1 Tbs chia seeds
1/2 + tsp cinnamon
1 Tbs cocoa powder
6-8 oz (3/4 - 1 cup) milk (I use whole)
3-4 ice cubes
Toss all your ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth. Enjoy a little extra time in your morning without sacrificing getting it off to a great start.
